Outside your watercolor box with Angus McEwan

Angus McEwan was born in 1963 in Dundee, Scotland. Angus studied at Jordanstone College Art in Dundee, graduating in fine arts and postgraduate studies in the same discipline.

 

Angus was admitted to the Royal Scottish Society of Watercolor Artists (RSW) (1995) and in 2012 to the Royal Watercolor Association (RWS). In 2005 he became an associate member of the International Guild of Realism in the United States. He is also an associate member of AWS and NWS in the United States. In 2016, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Glasgow Institute (RGI).

 

Angus has been a three-time finalist for International Artist Magazine and won first place in the John Blockley Award at the RI Open. Angus also won second prize at the Sunday Times Watercolor Competition (2007) in London and the Marche d'Acqua Fabriano International Prize, Italy in 2012. In 2013, Angus won a bronze medal at the Shenzhen International Watercolor Biennale. China. He recently received the My Marshall Brown Award at the Royal Scottish Society of Paintings in Watercolors (RSW), Edinburgh, 2015. In 2016, Angus received the title of "Honorary Citizen of Fabriano" and received the "Watercolor Enthusiasts" Award and the "Choice Award" the audience "at the International Watercolor Exhibition in San Diego, USA. He also received the Master World Watercolor Artist 2016 Award, Thailand, and the Gallery A Award at Watercolor International III, Thessaloniki, Greece


Various galleries have exhibited McEwan's works, including the OK Harris Gallery in New York and the Quanhua Gallery, Shanghai and Plus One Gallery, London. It was recently shown at the Shenzhen Biennial and Qingdao Hall of Watercolor. As a special guest he has had a solo exhibition in Fabriano, Italy during the Marche d’Acqua International Prize and Vicenza, Italy, where he has had a solo exhibition at Artbox. McEwan was one of 23 finalists in Narbonne, France at the 1st World Watercolor Competition "Competition Mondial de la Aquarelle 2014". Angus also participates in World Watermedia, Thailand and Myro Gallery, Greece. He also participated in the second and third international watercolors in Thessaloniki, Greece.

 

Recently, Angus participated in the Silk Road International Art Festival, Xian, China and the first international master exhibition of watercolor, Jimo, Qingdao, China 2016.

 

In 2017, Angus received a third place award at the 37th San Diego International Watercolor Exhibition. In 2018, Angus received third prize in the ARC Salon Competition (the largest and most prestigious competition in the Western world for realistic art) for landscape painting and honorary mention in the Still Life category.


Angus paintings are in the possession of private collections in the United Kingdom, Norway, the Netherlands, Australia, Turkey, Italy, China and North America.

 

He has 21 solo exhibitions, numerous collective participations, and has won 30 awards. He has also held watercolor seminars and demonstrations in Scotland, Fabriano, Vicenza, Bologna and Moscow over the past two years.
